About Electric Fence COC

Since 1 October 2012, every new, upgraded and majorly repaired electric fence installation in South Africa must comply with SANS 10222-3. Only an installer registered with the Department of Employment and Labour may issue the certificate, and to register, an installer first has to pass an exam.

An electric fence installed before 1 October 2012 must still be issued with an electric fence compliance certificate, but it doesn't have to comply with the new legislation, provided no major repairs or upgrades were done to it after 1 October 2012.

Selling Your Property?

  • You need a certificate, even for an older fence
  • It's made out to you as the current owner
  • Conveyancers accept it for the transfer
  • It doesn't expire
  • A new one is only needed if the fence is added to or changed

WhatsApp or call us, and we'll do the COC on your electric fence.

Why an Electric Fence COC

How many times have you heard people say that electric fences don't work? In most cases, the fence wasn't installed correctly, or it wasn't maintained and has deteriorated so much that it no longer works properly.

How do you know if your electric fence is working as it should? Will the alarm sound if a wire is cut, or if two wires touch? Is the voltage on the fence high enough? We've found many fences where the energizer was ticking, and that was all that still worked.

The legislation makes it basically impossible to have an electric fence that doesn't do what it's designed for.

Electric Fence Compliance Certificate

Many parts of an electric fence have to comply with the legislation set out in SANS 10222-3. The checklist shows only some of them.

If anything fails, we tell you what it will cost to fix before we do any work, and we fix it so the fence can pass. We take pride in our work, and we make sure your electric fence is up to standard and working as it should when we issue an electric fence compliance certificate.

What We Check for a COC

  • The energizer has its own earth
  • Lightning protection is fitted
  • There are enough earth spikes
  • The warning signs are in place
  • The sliding gate is part of the fence circuit
  • The voltage is high enough
  • The alarm sounds when a wire is cut or two wires touch
