Since 1 December 2012 all new, upgraded and repaired (major repairs) electric fence installations in
South Africa must be compliant to SANS 10222-3. From 1 October 2013, all electric fence installers had to
be registered with the Department of Labour after first passing a tough exam.
Many electric fences in Johannesburg's established suburbs — Melville, Greenside, Parktown and Auckland Park — were installed before this legislation came into effect, so we first check whether your fence still qualifies for grandfathered status or needs full compliance work, since any major repair carried out since 2012 removes that exemption. Why does an electric fence installation require a
compliance certificate? Well, how many times have you
heard
people say that electric fence does not work?
The reason for this, in most cases is that the installation
